Good Day Highlanders!

As we near the end of the 2020-2021 school year we want to make sure our students and parents have advance notice to be able to plan a visit to the school site to return textbooks, musical instruments, library books (and in some cases Chromebooks if a student is leaving SJAM and not returning to another WRDSB school).

We currently have several thousands of dollars worth of textbooks, library books and Chromebooks to recover. We recognise some of these resources are still in use by students completing their courses, but in many other cases the items are likely collecting dust somewhere from previous quadmesters as well. As we look forward to a fresh and smooth start in September, we are hopeful we can get all of our loaned resources returned and need your help.

Teachers and office staff will continue reminding students about the need to return materials and in some cases emailing or calling the homes of any current or former students with items still owing (textbooks, chromebooks and library books etc). Even if you don’t get a call please bring in items if you happen to find them. As a taxpayer funded public institution we are responsible to ensure we are seeking replacement costs for items not recovered where applicable. Families that do not return items will be asked to pay for the cost of replacing the item before their student over School Day and will be contacted directly over the next few months. In the first days of classes in the fall, students who have not resolved their lost items owing will be referred to the office to work out a solution for their missing item. VPs will work with families under financial strain.

All visitors (students/parents/guardians) dropping items off to the school property must follow WRDSB COVID 19 Health and Safety Guidelines including masking, distancing (2 m), and screening prior to visiting the school property.  Washroom facilities will not be available as there is no entry to the building permitted.

WHICH STUDENTS/PARENTS/GUARDIANS) SHOULD RETURN ITEMS AND WHICH ITEMS SHOULD BE RETURNED?

All Grade 9, 10, 11, 12*  students returning to SJAM/WRDSB (including Hybrid, DLP and remote learners and if doing summer school and those transferring to another WRDSB school)

1. Keep your chromebook (you will need it next year for your WRDSB/SJAM classes and if you are doing Summer School courses)

2. Return all other items so that students taking your seat next year will have the textbooks, library books, and instruments you had and that they will need.

Graduating/Graduated Grade 12 and 12+ students (and other non-returning grade 9-12+ students leaving the WRDSB to another school system)

1. Return your chromebook – unless you are enrolling in summer school. Chromebooks and their charging cords are the property of the Waterloo Region District School Board and must be returned upon graduation, or upon leaving the WRDSB. (All devices will be disabled shortly after the end of June for students no longer registered with the WRDSB beyond June 26th).

Google Accounts: Students graduating this year or who are leaving the WRDSB will have their Google Drive and email accounts closed over the summer. It’s recommended that students back up all documents and emails to their personal drive/accounts before the end of the semester. Apps such as Google Takeout can make this process easier.

2. Return all other items so that students taking your seat next year will have the textbooks, library books, and instruments you had and that they will need.
